Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
